Religion has walked out of Society

3 November 2010
Spirituality in the Christian Context

India-SriLanka (English-speaking) Group
Varghese, Patrick, Augustine, Srimal, Lijo, Tessa

Points discussed in the group
  • Religion has walked out from the society and its transcendental attitude is also missing. Therefore there is no respect for life, there is no sense of social justice. Religion is no more attractive because of its ritualistic ideal.
  • What will be the future of the religion? Ethics belongs to the religion. Dogma or ethics?
  • There are many movements which are very famous now-a-days, what can be done for them? As priest and nuns how we should educate them.?
  • Can I become a saint without God? God element we must have… without God it is impossible. Some would say I’m living a good life, I’m faithful to my wife, I’m taking care of my children, I’m honest etc, but they don’t believe in God.
We were left with some questions that we were not able to answer, but which we thought important to ask. These include the following expressions.
  • Can ethics be spiritual?
  • Can we speak about sanctity without God?
  • What is the meaning of our spirituality? Does it mean that we strive to make God more personal, so that the Unkown God comes to be known, that is, becomes more personal?
  • How to bring the youngsters towards the christian spirituality?
